Photo Journals

I have been tasked with finding a photo journal to see what I like about it, the aspects I could apply to my own work as well as the general benefits of keeping a journal. I found a website: http://www.bricklin.com/webphotojournals/samples.htm which has different examples of photo journals within it. All of the examples were blocked by the college's network but I picked through them and found one that worked and I liked.

Smelly and Dangerous!

I found a photo journal called Smelly and Dangerous that follows a group of guys on a trip to Salt Lake City in 1999. The journal is split up into the 7 days they are on the trip as well as extra pictures, a map and a trivia page. Some of the things I like about it is that it's very simplistic in terms of the layout. It has lots of pictures that show the progression of the trip they took and it has description for the pages also, describing what they did in short sentences each day.

Overall it's just a quick read of a journal that's straight to the point while also being quirky and funny. It really portrays the lad kind of banter they would of had in the group. One thing I don't like about it is that it's now a closed journal without any updates to it. It's just purely put up for this one trip, where I'd of preferred to have seen a bigger site perhaps with other trips they may have taken together.

The benefit of having a journal like this is that it is something to look back on as this was a trip from nearly 20 years ago, It's also the type of thing I'd like to do when going on a trip with my friends again. In terms of what I could incorporate into my own work, I'd definitely like to do a blog post with lots of pictures that shows progression, perhaps when we go on a trip I could do a similar take on this. I also want to make my blog easy to read and straight to the point, as well as having a bit of humour in it as its a reflection on me.
