Open day! (plus guest speakers)

We had an open day at college last week for higher education courses, during this I was given an opportunity to go into the photography studio and have a mess around with the lighting set up they have to achieve a portrait shot of somebody face.


I've never used a professional studio before so I was really eager to get in and try out the lighting. I set up the tripod and took a couple of pictures of the model.

I adjusted the lights as necessary and after I was done I ran it through Lightroom and got this:

Like I said I've not used the studio before and I'm still toying with the idea to rather do Graphics or Photography on HE. Which brings me to this week.


This week at college we had guest speakers come into college and showcase their work and tell us how they became what they are today.


In the morning we had a photographer called Seba Kurtis and the afternoon an Illustrator called Barney Ibbotson.


Seba Kurtis:


Seba is from Argentina and he immigrated to Spain when he was younger. His story is amazing and he's really down to earth which really inspired me. His drowned work particularly spoke to me and I'd love to try recreate his style in the future.

Barney Ibbotson:


Barney is an illustrator and part time lecturer at the Stockport College. His style of illustration is like busy doodling. His work is really symmetrical, the piece that I really liked was the "Milk Factory" image. Basically it's an outline of a cow with the inside of a factory.

I wasn't a fan of Barney's lecture, though I thought his work was brilliant. My internal battle of what I wan't to study is still raging...
