Influencing in Art

Up to now I have been focusing on my artists work solely, but I didn't consider looking at the bigger picture of where their work falls into the grand scheme of things. My tutor tasked me with looking for what my artist's work has been used as inspiration for somebody else's piece and to also see where they could of been inspired from previous pieces.
Out of my several artist's I decided to choose Peter Saville. I chose him due to his iconic work for Factory Records where he used a lot of stripes and bold colours which was really in revival during the 80's. I found images online and compiled them in my sketchbook.

The Joy Division album Unknown Pleasures album cover is very famous. I found images of the cover that people have recreated in their own style and also parodied. This included a 3D printed version which is a modern technique popular at the minute as well as tattoos, which I would also say is a very popular way of expressing art.
Tracing it back I had no idea that Peter didn't actually create the idea himself, he found an image of the sound wave from a book. I find it funny how the image wasn't meant to be famous but due to how it has now been recognised with Joy Division it has a entirely different meaning to people.
When we first started this exercise I didn't fully understand or appreciate the brief, but I now get that that is the whole point of it. That art work is parodied and remixed off of each other and is taken from different ideas.

I also wanted to heavily include the construction stripes into the collage as it is used heavily in a lot of the work. During the process of tracing back the work I found several old images of simplistic block coloured designs going back to the 30's Russian posters. These pieces have work are very similar to Saville's work.
