Ever since I experimented with Bordalo II's work and recreated it, I've wanted to incorporate it into one of my final pieces. I just loved the way the raccoon piece I did look and the amount of textures it had in it was brilliant. Within my research for Manchester I finally decided that I wanted to recreate the Hilton or the Beetham tower, it has different names but its an iconic building that you'll only see in Manchester.

One of the primary reasons for me doing the Beethem is I can see it from my house, by that I mean its miles away and really small, but especially at night you can see the iconic red lights on top. Due to those red lights, every time I'm travelling around the UK whether it be by train or car and I see those lights on the long drive.. I finally see home. I traveled to Harrogate the other day and I was traveling past the Trafford Centre on the way back and I saw the lights and it just means something to me personally.

Anyway I decided to get loads of images from Google of the different angles of the building and then I did a few sketches of the 3D angles to see how difficult of a job recreating the angle correctly be. I then picked an angle I specifically wanted to go with and drew over it saying what I wanted 3D or not.

Afer doing the raccoon piece I was somewhat prepared to do the full mural, but I kept putting it off. Finally at 1am on a night I had college the next morning I decided to go for it, it only took a few hours to glue it all. The next day I spray painted it then the day after that I did the finishing touches with some acrylic paint to really bring it out. I also added those signiture lights of course.

Here is a video I did that shows you process of me making it:

To conclude this project I'd firstly like to say how surprised I am with how much I feel in love with the art style Bordalo II uses. It's incredibly unique and I'm happy that I put my own stamp on it. I'm also really happy with the way the mural turned out, it has a real abstract look to it and everybody that I've shown doesn't get it at first glance. It needs to be actually looked at to be appreciated and I really like that.
